Giving a Derelict Malthouse a New Lease of Life
What do you do with a Grade II listed building that has been left derelict?
Converting historic buildings is rarely straightforward. Listed status brings restrictions and requirements that shape what can and can’t be changed. We’ve been working on the conversion of a historic malthouse into residential accommodation, carefully working within the requirements of listed building consent.
The proposals retain key elements of the existing fabric, including internal walls, ceilings and external doors, alongside new timber-framed windows designed to match the existing character.
With listed buildings, the challenge is finding the right balance between what needs to stay, what can change, and how the building can be given a viable future.
