Leisure/Retail
Purdey at The Royal Berkshire
Creating a market-leading destination for hospitality, retail, teaching and corporate events.
Acting as Lead Designers, we worked as part of a full-service, multidisciplinary design team to procure, design and deliver a significant capital investment project for Purdey at The Royal Berkshire.
The ambition was to elevate the existing facilities into a market-leading destination, bringing together the heritage and reputation of the setting with the quality, functionality and visitor experience expected of a contemporary premium brand.
The project created a carefully integrated mix of corporate hospitality, retail, teaching and event spaces, allowing the venue to accommodate everything from specialist instruction and individual visitors through to larger corporate events and hospitality experiences.
Working within a sensitive context of listed buildings and an established historic landscape required a considered architectural response. New interventions, upgrades and operational requirements were carefully coordinated to respect the character of the estate while delivering the performance and flexibility required of a modern commercial venue.
The result is a project where heritage, brand, hospitality and commercial experience come together, creating a distinctive destination that respects the qualities of The Royal Berkshire while providing Purdey with facilities appropriate to its reputation and future ambitions.

Bar Carousel, Rhyl – Reimagining a Leisure Venue
A vibrant refurbishment bringing new energy to an established holiday destination.
This project involved the refurbishment and extension of an existing entertainment venue within an established holiday park in Rhyl, transforming a well-used facility into a fresh and contemporary destination for guests.
Taking inspiration from the venue’s existing Carousel identity, the design reinterpreted the theme in a more sophisticated and contemporary way. Modern materials, lighting and interior finishes were carefully brought together to create a distinctive atmosphere while retaining the sense of fun and personality appropriate to a leisure setting.
The extension provided an opportunity to improve the functionality and capacity of the venue, while the wider refurbishment gave the building a completely renewed identity and visitor experience.
The result is a lively, characterful entertainment space that demonstrates how creative design and targeted investment can breathe new life into an existing commercial venue, creating somewhere memorable for visitors while giving an established building an entirely new chapter.

Deluxe Pop-Up Restaurant, London E1
Four weeks to create an experience that generated more than £4 million in equivalent advertising value.
Created as a high-profile pop-up restaurant in East London, this was a project where architecture, brand experience and an exceptionally demanding programme came together.
Working closely with the client and contractor, we helped take the concept from design to completion within an intensive four-week construction programme. Every decision had to balance speed and practicality with the ambition to create the all-important “wow factor” – an environment distinctive enough to capture attention both in person and through the media.
The finished restaurant became much more than a temporary venue. Its striking design and carefully orchestrated launch attracted extensive press and media coverage, generating more than £4 million in equivalent advertising value and providing significant exposure and brand awareness for the client.
The project also had a charitable purpose, with proceeds supporting CLIC Sargent, adding another dimension to an already memorable commission.
The result demonstrates the power of architecture as part of a wider brand and commercial strategy – creating a temporary destination that delivered an impact far beyond the physical building itself.

Sandpipers Entertainment Venue, Rhyl
Transforming an existing venue into a flexible all-day destination – with measurable commercial results.
Our client’s ambition was to transform an existing entertainment building at their North Wales holiday park into a high-quality, all-day hospitality venue, capable of adapting to the changing needs of guests throughout the day.
The building was comprehensively refurbished to create a flexible environment for coffee, food and informal dining during the daytime, transitioning in the evening into a restaurant and entertainment venue. Carefully considered interior finishes and programmable mood lighting allow the character and atmosphere of the space to change throughout the day, maximising the versatility of a single commercial space.
Delivered following an intensive eight-week construction programme, the refurbishment produced an immediate and significant commercial return. Following completion, our client reported food sales doubling and drinks sales increasing threefold, demonstrating the direct impact that well-considered design can have on customer experience and business performance.
Demand proved so successful that the commercial kitchen subsequently required further modification and increased capacity to accommodate the uplift in food sales.
Sandpipers demonstrates that successful commercial architecture is about more than appearance. By understanding how a venue needs to operate throughout the day, thoughtful design can improve the customer experience, increase utilisation and deliver tangible commercial value for the client.
